Backend database server is built with SQLite3 https://sqlite.org/index.html single file database, Node https://nodejs.org/, and Express https://expressjs.com/.

HTML Templating is provided by Lit lit.dev, the mapping library is Leaflet https://leafletjs.com/ and the background bathymetry / topography is from specialized tiled version of Global Multi-Resolution Topography Data Synthesis (GMRT) https://www.gmrt.org/

The remaining functionality is hand-written javascript, usually in typescript.

Oveall design is derivative of numerous, database-backed online maps.

1. Sample Search

Sample requests are built on identification of individual samples. You can find them by either searching for them (by name or other features) or geographically using the Lasso tool on the far right-hand side of the map.

2. Full Sample Details

Samples that appear in the search results are also displayed on the map. Hoving over objects on the map will identify their Sample Name. Clicking on the map icon or the item in the search list will bring up full details of that samples.

3. Add Samples to your Cart

Once you have identified a sample you would like to request, add it to the cart by pressing the "+" symbol on either the search result or within the full sample details.

Samples added to your cart should be saved in your browsers local storage. So your carts samples should presist if you leave and return. As with all technology, it is wise to keep a secondary copy. Samples can be added and removed from your cart before submission

4. Submit your Request

Once you have identified the samples you would like to request, click the Submit button in your Cart. This will bring up a submission form where you will fill in details about where you would like the samples to be sent along with specifics about sample handling procedures, e.g, size, weights, intervals, ...

5. Request Processing

Following your request, an MGSL curator should contact you with possible follow up or clarifying questions. Sample requests are reviewed and updated routinely by the MGSL staff and your sample request can be tracked for any updates following submission.
